Description

The Gunung Dempo is the 24th ship built for Indonesia by MEYER WERFT. She consists of 18 steel blocks, each having a weight of more than 100 tons. The first block weighed 133 tons and was put into place in the building dock by a crane having a lifting capacity of 600 tons.
Just like for her sister ships before, the perfect combination of modern equipment and particularly robust, durable technic was implemented for the Gunung Dempo.
In June 2007 the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, Wendy Aritnang, placed the traditional lucky penny on the blocks. In summer 2008, the 24th passenger ship for Indonesia was delivered to the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Jakarta. Beforehand, the 14.030-gt ship was named Gunung Dempo. Godmother of this ship was Mrs. Arita Jusman, the wife of the Indonesian Minister of Transport.
