Trailing suction hopper dredger Merwede Shipyard

Following the success of the earlier Merwede-built H-series, South Coast Shipping Company of Southampton decided to design and build Sand Falcon and Sand Fulmar based on the same cargo handling concept. These vessels have a hopper capacity of 4,000 m3 and are capable of dredging sand, gravel or the full mixture at a depth of 33 m below keel. Dry unloading is possible by bucket wheel and conveyor belt; wet unloading by dredge pump and shore pipeline. The third option is straight dumping through eight bottom valves.
