Integrated Bridge System (IBS) for ships L 3 Valmarine

The L-3 Valmarine Integrated Bridge Control System (IBCS) is a ship-operating concept comprising a navigation and vessel management system, manoeuvre control and common alarm handling.
It is designed with focus on human factors and thus taking into account the whole working environment when designing e.g. the bridge layout, including sight angles, communication needs and particular operations for the vessel. It is therefore adapted to the ergonomic requirements of the operators and the working environment is optimised for efficiency. Focus on human factors will give direct improvements on issues such as operational safety, efficiency and up-time, manning & crew flexibility, life-cycle cost and safety of personnel.

The system solution is based on well-established industrial standard, marine approved components with world-wide support and is designed for high reliability and availability. This is ensured by an architecture which utilises redundant, multi-function operator stations in combination with monitoring and control facilities distributed into a number of independent, autonomous sub-systems all connected in a redundant network. The L-3 Valmarine IBCS concept is focusing on functional integration, meaning that any navigation function can be preformed from any operator station. Thus, the consequences of any failure in the system are minimised and the operability is kept as high as possible.

The networked approach that brings the functionality together also allows for easy integration with other ship systems.
