Main furling has had the most development in recent years. New furling systems such as the DutchmanTM Mainsail flaking system make handling the mainsail a pleasure instead of a battle. Full length battens and batten slides are also significant improvements to most mains.

Time proven in-mast furling of mainsails have been around for a while, but provide owners with a compromised sail shape in return for the convenience. The newest technology on the market are the new in boom furling systems like the Leisure furl from New Zealand.
