Cruising sail : asymmetric spinnaker
Hathaways, Reiser & Raymond
The asymmetrical spinnaker is mainly used by the cruising and short handed sailing boat. It's advantage is the ability to sail better at deeper downwind angles while not requiring the use of labor intensive poles and multiple control lines and topping lifts etc. The disadvantage vs a symmetrical spinnaker is that it will not set well as deep but the advantages to a cruising and short handed crew far outweigh this.
