Bosun's chair Hathaways Reiser RaymondSelecting the right bosun's chair for work aloft generally depends on the type of work that needs to be performed and the amount of time aloft. So the well used phrase "form follows function" rings true when selecting a bosun's chair.
For the sailor who is aloft for short periods of time Hathaway's offers a climbing style harness co-designed by Spinlock and Petzl. This lightweight harness is appropriate for tasks such as going to the end of the spin pole for peels, spikes and going aloft for quick fixes. For the sailor who is aloft for longer periods of time we offer a chair designed for comfort and ease of movement. Designed and used by Hathaway's rigging manager, the chair is constructed out of heavily reinforced flexible dacron designed to securely fit around the upper thigh area of each leg. A retaining belt around the torso in addition to a safety tether with clip is also incorporated into the design. Velcro pockets on either side of the chair are great for holding pliers, rigging tape, knife, cotter/clevis pins etc. For good reason this is our most popular chair. |
