The GE38 gas turbine engine, which the U.S. Marine Corps has selected for the Sikorsky® CH53K helicopter program, is the most technologically advanced turboshaft engine in its class. The GE38 significantly advances the state-of-the-art in large turboshaft performance, fuel efficiency and life-cycle cost. Compared to its predecessor, the proven T64 turboshaft engine, the GE38 delivers 57 percent more power, 18 percent better fuel consumption and has 63 percent fewer parts. For marine applications, the GE38 is capable of providing propulsion power for the US Navy's new Ship-Shore-Connector (SSC) and efficient electrical power generation for DDG51 class destroyers and follow-on U.S. Navy surface combatants.
