The GRAND ISLE was originally built in 1953 for Lake Champlain Transportation. Originally constructed at 132 feet long, in 1995 the GRAND ISLE was sent to Eastern for an overhaul to support the need to accommodate larger trucks. The ferry was cut in half and a 38-foot mid body was installed. In addition to reconfiguring the superstructure, a new lounge and bathrooms were also installed. The ferry currently operates between Grand Isle, Vermont and Plattsburgh, New York.
