Balsa Core is the pinnacle of natural technology. An environmentally friendly, high performance core material for all sandwich applications. Derived from a natural resource, the balsa tree, Balsa Core is processed from raw balsa wood in state of the art premises. The honeycomb structure of the Balsa helps to provide incredible levels of compressive, tensile and shear strength. The composition also provides the product with high thermal and sound insulation as well as high fatigue resistance. Balsa Core is available in Flexible or Rigid formats and can also be ordered aa a Drilled or Grooved design for faster air escape to allow a better bond. Balsa Core Flexible features our unique Tri-Scrim system that allows teh material to be contoured around curved surfaces. The Tri-Scrim has fibres oriented in 3 directions, 0°, +45° and -45° which increases the tear resistance of the scrim during material handling. The new Tri-Scrim allows a larger bonding area between the core and the GRP laminate. This increase in bonding area results in excellent skin-to-core adhesion which is necessary to provide high quality sandwich products, tests have shown a 10% increase in bond strength when compared to standard scrim systems and due to the lower resin pick-up creates a stronger, lighter moulding.
