Sailboat : classic sailing-yacht (ketch)
ELEMIAH
Covey Island
- 19.81m
65' 0"ft
Elemiah was built to the Tioga design of L. Francis Herreshoff by Covey Island Boatworks in 2002.
Her hull offers the best of both worlds: built with 40' clear, vertical grain Douglas Fir on American White Oak -- exceptional materials probably no longer obtainable -- she has the charm and feel of a true classic. Yet, due to her epoxy composite construction and Awl Grip finish her maintenance requirements are comparable to a modern fiberglass vessel.
Her ketch rig and hydraulically operated centre board give her a flexibility that will carry her across oceans or around the buoys with surprising speed and simplicity.
Launched as "Elsie", she was renamed by a couple from the United Kingdom who purchased her in 2008. Following a refit that included a new diesel-powered electric generator, a CE-approved engine and a switch to 220v shore power, the new owners sailed her across the Atlantic. They plan to based their yacht in Croatia. Elemiah's website
