Sailboat : cruising-racing catamaran African Cats FASTCAT 555 GREEN MOTION
An absolute breakthrough in speed whilst still maintaining the right level of comfort...The new African FastCat 555 Green Motion is built with vacuüm infusion, which stands for Kevlar and basalt fibre, Epoxy, Vacuum Infusion. This method is used to lay the hulls, deck, bulkheads and interior modules onto a dry sandwich of E-glass Texalium, Carbon, Kevlar and closed cell foam. The sandwich will sub-sequently be put under a minimum of 24 hours of vacuum. This method uses about half the resin and results in a stronger laminate which directly trans-late into a weight saving of more than 2800 kg in the African Fast Cat 555 Green Motion. Carbon fibre is applied to the hulls, keels, rudders, mast foundation and rig which gives a great deal of extra strength. Both the hull and deck are built in one piece after which the bulk-heads and interior modules are installed and the deck is bonded onto the hull. After that the whole yacht is baked at 80 degrees Celsius for 8 hours for the post curing in order to create an extreme strong construction. The Kevlar in the hulls is used as an extra barrier against impact. Carbon is also used for the rig (mast and boom) witch results in an extra saving of 335 Kg (AFC 525).
