Perry Slingsby Systems has been involved in the design, manufacture, testing / commissioning and operation of manned Rescue Submersible Vehicles (SRVs) since the production of the first "LR" class submersible in 1974.
Today's SRVs free fly under battery power, are capable of diving to depths of 600 meters to rescue up to 18 submariners per dive and are piloted by a three man crew. The pressure hull is made from high-strength structural steel and incorporates two main access hatches: one underneath the SRV for dry transfer from the disabled submarine and one in the aft of the SRV for "transfer-under-pressure" to the hyperbaric decompression facility located on the Mother Ship. A large view-port gives 360° visibility from the conning tower.
The Propulsion and Control systems are designed for the efficient use of energy from the latest Traction Battery Technology.
The complete system comprises the SRV, an Intervention Class ROV (IROV) used to locate and survey the Distressed Submarine (DISSUB), Deck Located Control Rooms, Launch and Recovery Systems, Power Generator and Emergency Life Saving System Pods.
