Lombardini Marine generator set is the result of many years of study, made after a careful market-research with boat builders and final users. Our aim was too meet the needs of everyone, by making what was required by the market. We have therefore produced generator which answers the fundamental requirements of noiselessness, compactness, lightness, vibration free operation and is capable of working in high temperature environments and at large angles of inclination. For a traditional generator set, the main cause of noise is the engine.
Noise is transmitted outside the housing through opening made in the hood, which are generally necessary for the entry of the cooling air for the alternator.
Lombardini Marine, developed the silencing of the engine with a soundproof shield on the injection side, a major source of noise, and cooling the alternator with water and not air. This is why many hood opening have been eliminated and the essential combustion air enters by little holes through a labyrinth run in order to prevent the exit of noise.

The engines employed are the advanced LOMBARDINI full overhead control system (FOCS) range with integrated injection pump and injectors in one component located above the combustion area. This innovative system allows an accurate fuel injection adjustment with reduced smoke and minimal unburned fuel in the exhaust. The resulting low pollution levels mean the generator engine is fully approved for use on the inland waterways in standard form.

In designing the engines, consideration was given to their intensive use and to the desirability of easy and simple maintenance. These engines feature individual cylinder heads and wide inspection doors in the block, which makes access to the inside parts of the engine easy, and shortens the service time during maintenance and repair processes.

The M864W3 combines ample power, long life features, and low emissions owners expect from a Northern Lights.
Exceptionally smooth, quiet and clean, it makes life aboard comfortable while protecting the environment. The 2.5 liter Lugger diesel has been designed for clean exhaust and meets the US EPA Tier III emission requirements.
Noise is reduced at the design stage with several features. A laminated oil pan and an isolated rocker arm cover contain the noise at its source. A noise maze air intake silencer lowers noise while isolation mounts limit transmission of vibration to the vessel. For even more comfort specify a super attenuated, powder coated sound enclosure.

Cranking out 30 kW at 60 Hz (1800 rpm), the M944W3 is intended for long life at full load. At more then 3.33 liters, this four cylinder dynamo has the displacement (203 cid) to shoulder the large loads. The generator is driven by a reliable Lugger engine, drawing its strength from an industrial block designed for 2500 max rpm; not the 3600 rpm automotive engine common in the industry. That is the reason that the M944W3 hits the top of its torque curve at 1800 rpm instead of sliding down the back of it.
