The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) process reduces NOx emissions to harmless substances normally found in the air that we breathe.
Reducing NOx emissions by 85-95%, SCR is currently the most efficient method of NOx reduction. Hence, it is easy to reach a NOx level of 2 g/kWh or lower, which complies with the most stringent levels at sea.

The extremely high specific surface area of NOx honeycomb catalysts ensures a low catalyst volume and therefore a compact design of your SCR installation.
The Catalyst type and the required catalyst volume is individually designed and optimized, dependant on the specified exhaust gas conditions. Honeycombs with a pitch between 2,7 and 8,2 mm (0.11 and 0.32 inches) are available. The catalyst length will vary depending on operating conditions and ship requirements.
The exhaust gas temperature plays an important role in the choice of catalyst. Our standard catalysts offer operating temperatures between 280°C and 450°C (535°F and 845°F). We also offer catalysts which have been specifically developed for low and high temperature applications. This results in high
NOx removal efficiency at a temperature range between 170°C and 510°C (335°F and 950°F).

The NOx exhaust gas cleaning system, demonstratively reduces pollution.
The NOx exhaust gas cleaning system for marine diesel engines. Couple Systems, supplies complete exhaust gas cleaning systems which can be attached to sources of NOx emissions, such as internal combustion engines
which are fueled by diesel or heavy fuel oil. For marine diesel engines the NOx exhaust gas cleaning system is installed downstream of the engine, in the
exhaust system, and consists of the NOx catalytic reactor, a control unit, suitable for either open or closed loop control systems and a dosing unit for the reduction agent.
The control unit ensures optimum and safe operation and egulates the injection of reducing agent according to the required load of the engine.
This intelligent control equipment guarantees optimized consumption of the reducing agent.
The NOx exhaust gas cleaning system is based on a process known as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), this currently being the most effective and proven process for NOx reduction. Harmful nitrogen oxides are reduced into harmless nitrogen and water, through the use of a urea solution and the NOx catalyst.
The main features of the honeycomb type catalyst being, the specially designed surface which ensures a high degree of activitywith associated resistance against chemical substances.
In combination these characteristic allow for a highly compact unit, which ensures low exhaust back-pressures and low ammonia slip.

High-sea ships, offshore supply ships, inland ships, passenger ships and ferries - they all produce NOx-gases.
More and more countries and harbors are setting NOx limits for these emissions.
The marine system, especially developed by Hug Engineering AG for this range of applications, can abate the dangerous nitrogen oxides (NOx)
