The Jastram azimuth grid thruster is capable of providing highly accurate dynamic positioning, responsive steering and emergency propulsion.
Mounted flush to the bottom of the vessel, it has no protruding parts which could be damaged in shallow water. A removable grid protects the horizontally mounted propeller. Smaller parts and sand are washed through the large-volume housing.
A special propeller generates effective thrust with a high volume at a low pressure.

The Veth Steering Grid is the most recent addition to the Veth product line. It is a 360° rotating bow thruster with a thought through construction.
The Veth Steering Grid has an innovative mechanical design, in which many successful parts of the Veth Bow Thruster have been used such as the steering worm wheel and main gearing. The easy to build in unit takes a limited amount of space. Thanks to the hydrodynamically optimised unit the Veth Steering Grid is very effective and can be delivered in a range from 300 to 650 hp.

OMEGA 360°Azimuth Thruster
OMEGA channel thrusters are capable of rotating through 360° and
available as 2, 3 or 4 channel designs. These units are equipped with a
'Bollard Pull' system with a capacity of 24.9 lbf/kW. They are available with
power ratings ranging from 100 to 1500 kW and can also be used as
propulsion engines for continuous operation. The thrusters can be driven
hydraulically, by a diesel engine or by an electric motor.
OMEGA thrusters are state-of-the-art units constructed from top-quality
materials. These advanced thrusters are equipped with an MnBr/CuNiAl
propeller, a high-grade spiral bevel gear and a stainless anti-wear ring
(optional) around the propeller to avoid erosion. A special filter in the
suction inlet prevents foreign objects from damaging the unit.

Combined Azimuth Retractable / Tunnel Thruster

It functions inside of the ship in its highest position, and underneath the vessel in its lowest position. In the latter case it can rotate a full 360 degrees and can be used to provide (emergency) propulsion.

The SCHOTTEL Pump-Jet (SPJ) operates on the principle of a centrifugal pump. An impeller sucks in water from under the hull and forces it into a pump housing. The outlet nozzles are fitted in the bottom plate, making it possible for the jet to be installed in a flat-bottomed hull too.

Veth-Compact-Jet
The Veth-Compact-Jet is a thruster, meant for propulsion, but can also be used as a bow thruster.
Applications
An important advantage is that the Compact-Jet is very appropriate for shallow draught conditions. And as there are no protruding parts underneath the vessel, this thruster is also very suitable to make flat-bottom crafts, such as barges, self propelled.
When the requirements for a low sound level are very important, as for example in passenger vessels, the Compact-Jet can also be used as a bow thruster. Thanks to it's double construction, the sound level is limited to a minimum.

SCHOTTEL has developed a new concept that combines the main technical and economic criteria of both mechanical Rudderpropellers and pod drives: the SCHOTTEL Combi Drive (SCD).

Propulsion solutions with Wärtsilä steerable thrusters are provided for offshore, offshore support, sea-going and tug applications. With steerable thrusters thrust can be applied in any direction for achieving superior manoeuvrability.

In contrast to pod drives with an electric motor inside the underwater pod, the motor in the new propulsion system will be integrated vertically into the support tube of the Rudderpropeller. This arrangement of the electric motor means that the concept is similar to that of a Rudderpropeller with a vertical power input (“L system”). Moreover, neither an above-water gearbox nor a cardan shaft will be required, making the system extremely compact and easy for the shipyard to install in the vessel.

Over 80 years ago this ship's propulsion system, the only one of its kind in the world was developed by Voith from an idea by the Austrian engineer Ernst Schneider. It allows thrust of any magnitude to be generated in any direction quickly, precisely and in a continuously variable manner. It combines propulsion and steering in a single unit.
This solution is as convincing as it is straightforward: on the Voith Schneider Propeller, a rotor casing which ends flush with the ship's bottom is fitted with a number of axially parallel blades and rotates about a vertical axis. To generate thrust, each of the propeller blades performs an oscillating motion about its own axis. This is superimposed on the uniform rotary motion.
Blade excursion determines the amount of thrust, while the phase angle of between 0° and 360° determines its direction. As a result, the same amount of thrust can be generated in any direction, making this the ideal variable-pitch propeller. Both variables - the magnitude and the direction of thrust - are controlled by a mechanical kinematic transmission.

SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers (SRP) are combined propulsion and steering systems rated at up to 6000 kW, which convert the engine power into optimum thrust. As the underwater components can be steered through 360 degrees, the full propulsive power can also be used for manoeuvring and dynamic positioning of the ship.

Steerprop Propulsors are available with fixed pitch propellers in ducted, open or contra-rotating configurations.

The Veth-Z-Drive and L-Drive rudder propellers have proven to be very reliable through the years, in both inland and marine navigation.
High thrust and excellent manoeuvrability are important characteristics. these properties, in combination with the application of only first class materials, make this system a particular product of high quality.
The Veth-Z-Drive are also extremely silent, due to the use of the best helical gears wheels minimum resistance. Flexible mounting and/or counter rotating propellers can limit the sound level even more.

Azimuth Retractable Thruster

Veth Motoren BV has built up a great deal of experience with auxiliary drive systems in the field of offshore shipping.
The Veth-Z-Drives, in this case, are completely retractable within the ship. By means of an ingenious arch-claw clutch system, the engine can be completely detached from the driving unit by remote control.
These types of installation are usually linked to a Dynamic Positioning system and work under the most difficult circumstances.

The SCHOTTEL Twin-Propeller (STP) is the successful optimization of the complete Rudderpropeller system with an efficiency up to 20% higher. It is the ideal means of propulsion for all vessels in the medium speed range with application-related higher propeller loads.

The new dual-end CRP - developed by Steerprop - combines the well-recognized benefits of CRP to those of a pulling propulsion unit.
There are basically two physical features behind the efficiency gain offered by a propulsion unit with contra-rotating propellers:
- First, and most well known, is the aft propeller recovering the swirl energy left behind by the forward propeller
- Second is the splitting of the power not only between two propellers but also between two gear-sets. This makes it possible to reduce the propeller RPM and have two large propellers with light load and low speed of rotation. A combination that yields a very high propeller efficiency. Additionally, also the frictional losses are reduced because of the low RPM.

Veth Motoren belongs worldwide to the market leaders of counter rotated rudder propellers.
Two propellers are mounted either side of the tail, each turning in opposite directions. The second propeller eliminates the rotation in the water caused by the first propeller. This improves the vessels performance up to even 15% compared to a single propeller! As the power is divided over two propellers, it is possible to put more power on smaller propeller diameters.
Another advantage of the counter rotated system is that it is extremely quiet. The reason for this is that the blade load is lower, because the input power is divided over two propellers and because of the rotational speed which is lower than with a single propeller.
This is a.o. why this system is more and more applied in passenger vessels, where a low sound level is very important. But also other types of vessels are more and more equipped with this counter rotated system, because of the high performance and the small propeller diameters.

Azipod® is a podded electric propulsion unit where the variable speed electric motor driving the fixed pitch propeller is in a submerged pod outside the ship hull, and the pod can be rotated around its vertical axis to give the propulsion thrust freely to any direction. Thus the ship does not need rudders, stern transversal thrusters or long shaftlines inside the ship hull.
Azipod propulsion system was introduced some 20 years ago and the system has gained a position of a major propulsion system for luxury cruise liners and ice going tonnage. The concept has many benefits. Due to the azimuthing propulsion its manoevrability is excellent, it saves space inside the vessel hull and gives a lot of freedom for ship design. Especially in ice going vessels the system improves the performance in ice operation. However, the most important benefit of the system is reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
