ship-alternator

A ships alternator transforms mechanical energy into alternating current electrical energy. NauticExpo offers different types, including synchronous, asynchronous and three-phase models.

Applications

To produce electricity, the device can be linked to an auxiliary engine, a generator motor or directly to the propeller shaft.

Technologies

Alternators consist of a stator and a rotor. The stator is a stationary element made up of conductors wound in coils. The rotor is a rotating magnet driven by an outside source of mechanical energy. As it turns, it induces an alternating current in the stator. Rotors can have flat or salient poles.

How to choose

Choice of alternator will depend on the drive engine, since its rotational speed in revolutions per minute (rpm) will determine the number of rotor poles, two, four, six or more.
