DM300 Simplified Voyage Data Recorder
Product functionality
The DM300 S-VDR consists Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) including a super rugged industrial maritime computer platform approved in accordance with IEC 60945 and a protective data capsule.
The DM300 S-VDR has a number of inputs e.g. the primary navigation sensors, radar display signals, two VHF radios as well as a number (up to six) dedicated microphones placed on the bridge work station. Also a separate Bridge Alarm Panel is placed on the bridge and connected to the S-VDR to give alarms in case of abnormal situations like malfunctions as loss of signals or power sources.
To save the 12 hours of data a highly secure protective capsule is connected to the DAU with a single cable. The protective capsule is able to withstand extreme temperatures, pressure, shocks and vibration in accordance with the requirements of resolution A.694(17) and international standards acceptable by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The data recorded in the protected capsule can be replayed with the VDR Explorer, either for incident investigation or for training and education purposes. The VDR Explorer is a software application that is included in the system as standard.
In addition to the above the data can be transferred to a separate MS Windows based computer via a standard Ethernet cable for storage, replay or live play.

The JCY-1850 Simplified Voyage Data recorder (S-VDR) is a so-called black box which complies with IMO, MSC 163(78) performance standard according to IMO, SOLAS-V, Regulation 20 as well as VDR, recording navigational information, bridge conversation and VHF communication. The recorded data is used to analyze causes of an accident such as collision, grounding or sinking. The SOLAS obligates to carry S-VDR for all existing cargo ships over 3,000GT after 1 July, 2006 but not later than 1 July, 2010.

The MARIS S-VDR2000 is identical to the
Wheelmark (EU) type approved VDR2000 except for
the protective capsule.
The S-VDR2000 will meet and/or exceed relevant
standards.
Installation, Operation and Maintenance
The S-VDR2000 is easy to install, service and
upgrade, resulting in low installation and life cycle
costs.
The S-VDR2000 is small in size with low weight, and
its use of COTS components ensures well proven solu-
tions and high reliability.
The S-VDR2000 is maintenance free and requires no
attention from shipboard personnel once fitted
(automatic operation).
The S-VDR2000 is designed to record and maintain a retrievable record of the ship’s nautical data. Like the
black boxes carried on aircraft, VDRs enable accident investigators to review procedures and instructions in the
moments before an incident, and help to identify its cause.
All data is stored in both the protective capsule (Simplified Voyage Recorder-SVR) and on the harddisk in the
S-VDR2000.The stored data can be downloaded and analyzed for investigation purpose, training and simulation
at any time.

A new FURUNO Simplified Voyage Data Recorder (S-VDR) VR-3000S complies with the IMO performance standard IMO MSC. 163 (78) as well as IEC testing standards IEC 61996-2 and IEC 60945. The S-VDR is for existing cargo vessels of 3,000 gross tonnage and upwards with a phase-in requirement schedule for those of 20,000 gross tonnage and upwards first, to be followed by others of 3,000 gross tonnage and upwards according to the revision on SOLAS Chapter V Agenda Item 20, adopted at the 79th MSC session.
S-VDR records data and events occurred during navigation, which include: date and time, ship's position, speed, heading bridge audio, communication audio, radar/ECDIS images and others, which can be utilized to assist maritime casualty investigators in identifying the causes. Also, the data can be used as future reference to further incident prevention.
