A yacht davit is a mechanical or hydraulic articulated arm designed to facilitate handling heavy gear such as tenders, water sports equipment, supplies and other material. Those offered on NauticExpo are intended for use on leisure craft over 15 meters long.
ApplicationsThese devices are found on most super and mega-yachts, as well large sailing yachts. Their tenders, rigid or rigid inflatables, must be stowed aboard on a cradle. Only such luxury vessels carry jet skis, sailing dinghies, kayaks, miniature submarines and similar gear.
TechnologiesThe davit's articulated arm, sometimes telescopic, lifts the device off the deck and places it in or retrieves it from the water. Manual models can be used for relatively light loads, but most are hydraulic or electric, with a control panel or remote control.
Certain davits retract into a special compartment beneath the deck or into the stern. These mechanisms consume large amounts of electricity. Nearly all use 110 or 230 V power (380 V for the largest models) and require the use of a powerful generator.
Choice will depend on the maximum load capacity of the davit, which should be sufficient to lift the heaviest piece of equipment aboard, usually the tender. The davit must be carefully situated as a function of the required travel distance to clear the rail.
