Mechanical ship unloaders:
Buhler mechanical ship unloaders are equipped with high-capacity chain conveyors and satisfy all the requirements for achieving efficient and trouble-free material handling. The self-contained, rugged conveyors of rain-proof and dust-tight design enable ships with sizes up to 120,000 DWT (Dead Weight Tons) to be unloaded at throughput rates up to 1,440 metric tons per hour, depending on the particular type.
An automatic sink-in mechanism ensures the optimal position of the marine leg boot in the material inside the ship%u2019s hold and allows automatic unloading down to the minimum depth of material. The various possibilities of moving the boom and the sophisticated kick-in/kick-out system provide a very large range of action inside the ship%u2019s hold. The material is transferred to permanent conveying systems or directly to road or rail vehicles. The tried and tested design with its proven and wear-resistant mechanical and hydraulic components ensures low sensitivity to foreign objects and high operating reliability even when material characteristics vary. The ship unloaders are easy to operate through their PLC visualization control system and are distinguished by their low energy consumption.

ThyssenKrupp Robins' continuous ship unloaders (CSUs) are equipped with an L-shaped, bucket-elevator-type unloading device that is suspended from the CSU's boom. The material to be unloaded is scooped up by the bucket elevator at the horizontal segment of the "L", while at the vertical segment, the bucket elevator transports the material to the top of the CSU's boom, where it is unloaded onto a belt conveyor. The entire L-shaped system can rotate 360°, allowing full access to the entire hold. The design of the horizontally suspended portion of the bucket-elevator-type unloading device allows for superior emptying, thus minimizing the manual cleanup needed by dozers. Our continuous ship unloaders feature a cantilevered, but guided chain-and-bucket suspension that protects the bottom of a ship's hold. The CSU traverses on pier-mounted rails along the full length of a ship.

Continuous barge unloaders
Metso Minerals supplies various types of continuous barge (CBUs) and ship (CSUs) unloaders, utilizing single or double digging ladder arrangements to service all type of river, gulf and ocean vessels.
For high capacity unloading applications, CBUs and CSUs offer an economical, efficient unloading option when compared with alternate unloading methods.
The Metso Minerals continuous unloader feature a cleaner, less polluting operation with lower maintenance costs and power consumption. They provide an excellent overall unloading rate that allows faster barge and ship turnaround.
Our CBUs are designed in various configurations. The hinged (pivoted) ladder unloader provides optimum service for low water level fluctuation. The cantilevered single or double-laddered unloader accommodates level rise up to 50 feet. Both types can discharge a barge at a rate of 5,000 tons per hour and can be provided as either a stationary or traveling machine.

Metso's self-unloading ships provide you with the best and most reliable systems.
Our self-unloading systems permit discharge into shoreside hoppers, conveyors or stockpiles. The only requirements are mooring dolphins and a place to unload. Our self-unloaders have proven their versatility in a host of specialty applications, including use as transfer platforms and ballasting of oil drilling platforms and underwater cables.
The Metso self-unloading systems reduce turnaround time from days to hours. A cape-sized vessel with a discharge rate of 10,000 tph can be completely discharged in 10 to 20 hours, compared with 4 to 6 days by other unloading systems.
Port, crane and labor costs are reduced through its use. Hold damage, inherent with the use of traditional unloaders, is eliminated, usually lowering insurance premiums. In addition, our self-unloading systems maximize ship productivity by allowing return shipments to get underway sooner.

Siwertell continuous screw-type unloaders:
With a totally enclosed conveying line the Siwertell unloader ensures environment-friendly operation. It is suitable for a wide range of dry bulk cargoes such as cement, coal, grain, derivatives, fertilizers, minerals etc.
The Siwertell continuous, screw-type unloader offers:
- Well proven and reliable continuous unloading system.
- Very low impact on the environment. The conveying line is totally closed. Very little dust is generated when material is picked up in the ship's hold. Noise levels are low.
- Cost competitive unloading system. With the low weight of the unloader due to its unique design and based on a well proven standard competitive prices can be offered.

Mobile unloaders:
Three versions are offered today: the Siwertell 5000 S, 10 000 S and 15 000 S:
- Siwertell 5000 S: mounted on a semitrailer this model is fully road mobile and suitable for vessels of up to about 5000 dwt.
- Siwertell 10 000 S: the trailer-based version of the 10 000 S unit, designed for ships of up to about 10,000 dwt, is port mobile or road mobile. Stationary and gantry-mounted versions are suitable for ships of up to about 15,000 dwt.
- Siwertell 15 000 S: mounted on a semitrailer the 15 000 S unit is port mobile or road mobile and suitable for ships up to about 15,000 dwt. Stationary and gantry-mounted versions can be used for ships of up to about 20,000 dwt.
The unloading capacities range from about 200t/h up to 550t/h (550t/h is valid for the 15000 S unit when unloading cement). Among the commodities handled are cement, grain, derivatives, fertilizers and alumina. Depicted are a Siwertell 5000 S in transport mode and a Siwertell 10000 S on a quay, ready for operation.
