Main Deck
The position of the telescopic gangway in the stern is the first demonstration of the quality of the Azimut 53 design. Boarding access is to the side so that the passage leaves the cockpit's dinette and relaxation area free, which is served by a C-shaped sofa, a fixed table and a cabinet fridge.
In the saloon the light filtering in through the large windows finds no obstacles and illuminates a spacious, full-height room. Sofas and poufs are covered with a two-tone mixed velvet and satin fabric for an effect of rare elegance.
The two-seat driver's bench is a point of pride owing to its design, ergonomics and engineering. The fabric and leather back is reversible and, made to slide along guides, makes it possible to create an extremely comfortable seat in the dinette area in seconds. What's more, the fold-up cockpit chairs can be stowed inside the sofa.
The furniture on the main deck is of pickled oak with lacquered cognac inserts and dark leather tops for an elegant contrast with the white carpeting.
The galley has a three-burner glass-ceramic cooktop, an extraction hood, a 40-liter microwave, a 220-liter refrigerator, a convenient work surface with a storage compartment and a beech chopping board. The crockery is stored in the saloon cupboard and an original system eliminates all vibration.
Lower deck
Three extremely comfortable twin cabins, in addition to the seaman's cabin, make the Azimut 53 a demonstration of space expansion theory.
The master cabin is placed amidships, full beam and full height. The panoramic windows are proposed in the typical Azimut Yachts design, with vertical rectangles and two openable portholes. The dinette corner holds the vanity zone, with an openable mirror and a writing desk.
The bed is at 45 degrees to the bow. Cognac-colored leather inserts on doors and furnishings dialog with the pickled oak of the furniture. Large, separate wardrobes with hanging space. The master bath has VetroFreddo sinks and a separate shower with a seat and chromotherapy.
The VIP cabin is forward, with a longitudinal bed featuring large storage compartments. The room is generously lighted by horizontal panoramic windows and a hatch with a sliding cover. A door inside the cabin gives direct, private access to the head, which has a shower stall with a three-panel door.
The guest cabin sleeps two comfortably in twin beds. Fresh air wafts in through a 30-cm openable porthole, while the stay on board is made even more pleasurable by the possibility of stowing personal belongings in numerous compartments, peaks and wardrobes whose existence is not immediately apparent.
Fly e style
The line of the Azimut 53 is designed on the lower deck by a colored "ocean purple" band. Stairs integrated in the superstructure, with comfortable teak treads, give access to one of the largest flybridges of the category. The helm station, off-center to port, makes it possible to carve out a sun-bathing area in the bow, which doubles the large sun and relaxation zone aft. Between the two areas is a dinette with a small table, fridge and cooktop for open-air meals in total comfort.

The client approached us, referring to the positive press reviews of the 50ft Crowther designed >>Molly, but wanted a more trawler type look, a more personalized interior and a 2.000 mile range. Barbara Mae was supposed to be a very seaworthy, fuel efficient, go-anywhere live-a-board vessel.
Because of the 2.000 mile range we had to accommodate more fuel storage and therefore stretched the design to 55ft, for increased buoyancy. As we are custom and one-off builder we changed the exterior and interior styling radically and converted the design due to the wishes of our client.
