The Online Boating and Maritime Exhibition
A work boat with an enclosed cockpit is a motor vessel with a wheelhouse.
These vessels are suitable for diverse maritime activities including patrol, search and rescue, fishing, diving and provisioning. The wheelhouse enables them to operate in any weather and at any time of day or night.
Such craft can be powered by inboard or outboard engines. They can have rigid aluminum or composite hulls or rigid inflatable hulls of PVC or Hypalon. Their equipment varies according to use. For example, patrol and rescue vessels may have towing gear and spotlights, while a coast guard launch might carry a machine gun or other armament.
