How to choose this product

windsurf-mast

A windsurf mast is a streamlined tube of composite materials which forms the spine of the rigging.

Applications

Such masts are indispensable for proper rigging of a windsurfer. NauticExpo features models for beginners as well as the most experienced competitive windsurfers. There are models for freeride, racing, slalom, wave and other disciplines.

Technologies

These masts are made of fiberglass, carbon fiber or a sophisticated mix of the two, encased in epoxy resin. Their characteristics depend on their composition and carbon content. Carbon provides sensitivity and faster response times, allowing the mast to return quickly to its initial position after a sudden movement. It is lighter, but not as as strong as fiberglass.

Standard diameter masts (SDM) have an inner diameter of 48.5 millimeters. Thinner, reduced diameter versions (RDM) are only 33 mm across, offering superior aerodynamics and better handling.

How to choose

Mast length depends on sail size and riding style. A mast extension or a headpiece is sometimes required to adapt the mast to the sail. The carbon content will depend on the particular discipline and your experience. The higher the carbon content, the lighter and more sensitive the mast. However, this also makes it more fragile and more expensive.
