An open-hull craft with wheelhouse is an open boat with an enclosed helm. In contrast to a simple windshield, the wheelhouse is a small cabin affording protection from the elements while en route to fishing grounds, work zone or just out for a ride.
Common among pleasure craft, open hulls with a wheelhouse are very popular for amateur and professional fishing because they provide both deck space and the comfort of an enclosed helm.
The wheelhouse can be quite spartan - a simple protected steering console closed aft by nothing more than a curtain. However, it can also be spacious and well-appointed. Such craft can be outboard-powered, but their greater size makes inboards more common.
Intended use will inform the choice of model, though it should be noted that an aluminum hull is the usual choice among professionals.
