The Online Boating and Maritime Exhibition
A water pedestal is port equipment furnishing boaters access to fresh water.
These pedestals often incorporate electrical outlets, thus combining multiple utility access in one, easily-identifiable structure. They are designed to stand up to the rigors of constant exposure, as well as to vandalism and simple neglect. The most common materials are fiberglass, stainless or galvanized steel, or aluminum protected by epoxy paint.
Their design is meant to blend into the surroundings while remaining easy to spot. Waste can be controlled by the use of metering or coin or card operation. Since they are located at regular intervals along docks and fingers, nearly all also provide lighting to avoid multiplication of waterside structures.
Careful planning is necessary to determine the appropriate number and placement of pedestals. Their design should blend with the surroundings. Consideration should be given to incorporating adjunct services such as lighting, electrical outlets, Internet, telephone and television connections.
