Vectran® rope is made of a high-tech polymer particularly resistant to high temperatures, mildew and stretching.
This cordage is used aboard sailboats, especially racers, for halyards, furling gear, stoppers, or even as standing rigging because it is very stable.
Standard gold-colored Vectran® is often sheathed to protect it against UV rays, which reduce durability. The jacket also offers crew a better grip and improved holding in jam cleats. Diameters run the gamut, from thin line for sailing dinghies to heavier versions for large sailboats. This braided line can be spliced. Vectran® offers a good price/performance compromise among the varieties of modern, high-tech line compared to PBO or Dyneema®.
Consider the maximum load the line must bear. Manufacturers indicate working and breaking load for each product. Choose sheaths of different colors to easily identify lines during maneuvers.
