A trawler is a powerboat resembling a fishing trawler. Very seaworthy and providing comfortable accommodations, the trawler is the blue-water powerboat par excellence.
These boats are favored for long-distance cruising because of their comfortable accommodations thanks to significant freeboard and generous hull volume. Their configuration affords ample fuel capacity, allowing extended voyages.
Following the principal lines of fishing trawlers, these vessels usually have displacement or semi-displacement hulls. This limits their cruising speed to around 10 knots. However, reducing speed can be considered an economy measure in an era of rising fuel prices. Thus, trawlers are well-suited to long-distance cruising.
