How to choose this product
A through-hull fitting is a metal or plastic device composed of a threaded tube and washers. It connects pump hoses, outlets, sensors or other instruments or machinery within the hull to the exterior. It can be situated below or above the waterline.
Such fittings link devices within the hull to the exterior. This includes various hoses, depth or log sensors and underwater lights. They are found aboard recreational sail- and powerboats, regardless of construction material.
A threaded tube and flat washer are inserted into a hole in the hull. A threaded washer is screwed onto the tube and tightened against the hull, fastening the device in place. Polyurethane sealants ensure watertightness.
The threaded tube is usually equipped with reducers and ribbed nozzles for pump or outlet hoses. In some cases, the fitting holds an electronic depth or speed sensor, or an underwater light. Fittings for seawater engine cooling pumps often have strainers to filter out foreign objects. Whether stainless steel, aluminum or plastic there is a wide selection of diameters.
How to choose
To avoid electrolysis, the fitting material must be compatible with that of the hull. Avoid using a stainless steel fitting on an aluminum hull, for example.
