A tanker barge is a flat vessel with very little freeboard designed for the transport of bulk liquid cargoes, especially petroleum products.
Tanker barges carry bulk liquids in relatively calm waters, such as rivers and ports. Around ports, they supply fuel to ships anchored off or moored.
Tanker barges resemble tankers in design. The hull has one or more cargo holds. Each hold has its own unloading pumps.
Choice will depend primarily on cargo capacity. Other important factors include dimensions, zone of operation and propulsion system.
