A tanker is a ship specially designed to carry bulk liquid cargo. There exist many types of tankers depending on the intended cargo. NauticExpo features asphalt, LPG, LNG and oil tankers, among others. Typically, tankers carry no deck cranes and show little free-board when heavily loaded.
Tankers are designed to transport a wide range of bulk liquids: water, wine, molasses, liquified gas, petroleum, etc.
The typical tanker hold is divided into tanks of varying shapes, sizes and fabrication, depending on the type of liquid to be carried. There usually are pumps inside the tanks for discharging cargo. Certain cargoes also may require cooling or heating systems.
Though many factors must be taken into account - dimensions, power, navigational scope and zone - the decisive criterion is the kind of cargo to be carried.
