The stern tube maintains the hull's watertightness and houses the bearings allowing the propeller shaft to turn smoothly.
The stern tube is a metal tube with bearings at each end to reduce power loss as the propeller shaft turns. It allows the shaft to pass through the hull while preventing water from entering.
Tube length and diameter must correspond to the propeller shaft dimensions. Power loss due to friction should also be considered.
