The WillDo MINI Jet Thruster, available in a 20 or 30 kgf version, is an entirely new and ingenious development by WillDo. It is a so-called two-way system which does not have a seperate inlet like the other models, but only two small openings. Simultaneously, one of the openings functions as the suction end and the other opening as the pressure end, where the thrust force is generated and, of course vice versa when you need to manoeuvre into the opposite direction. This procedure is made possible by the specially designed WillDo floating nozzles, to provide enough water supply. The bidirectional electric motor drives the vane pump which has been especially developed by us.

The Willdo Jet Thrusters are driven hydraulically (not electrically) by the propulsion engine. A hydraulic pump, which is fitted onto the propulsion engine, drives an hydraulic motor, located in the pump housing, which in turn activates a water pump, that sucks in the water through an opening in the bottom of the boat and presses it wih great force, via hoses with an inside diameter of no more than 45mm, to the nozzles in the sides of the boat.
Each WillDo electrically driven Jet Thruster consists of a unidirectional DC motor (standard equipped with a thermal protector!), driving a centrifugal impeller. As this impeller is immersed in water it starts to prime the surface water and build up the pressure. The water flows through the flexible hoses via the diverter valves to the outlet openings, which have a diameter of ø32mm (up to 50kgf) or ø46 for the bigger units. These openings must be positioned into either bow or stern (Single) or in both (Combi). The water intake (available in stainless steel 316 or aluminium) has a diameter of 90mm and is equipped with a grid to prevent larger objects from getting into the system. Smaller debris that floats in the water and can pass through the grid, will not cause any damage to pump and valve.

Installed in combination with a bow thruster the stern thruster improves boat manoeuvrability and greatly simplifies berthing, even with larger boats. QL stern thrusters are recommended for boats with inboard engines, (single installation) with a conventional propeller shaft. They are installed at the stern, with the motor inside the hull and the propeller tunnel outside the transom. The tunnel has a flared inlet and outlet in order to improve flow.

The stern thrust installation, developed and produced by ALMAR, is being mounted underneath the bathing plattform at least 80 mm below the water-line on the outside onto the flat of the stern. The mounting is very easy as only a drilling on the hull of 60 mm in diameter is necessary in order to guarantee the power supply. For mounting, 4 screws are provided on both ends. In the driving range the aggregate itself is encapsulated completely waterproof. The complete unit is plastic-laminated and after the installation coated with antifouling. The propeller shaft is sealed twice by special shaft seals. Caused by the special construction of the water in- and outlet area a high efficiency is achieved.

Installing an electric bow or stern thruster in a petrol (gasoline) engined boat can be very dangerous, due to the possibility of the electric motor igniting fuel vapour.
In order to eliminate the risk, this special housing will shield the bow or stern thruster from potentially explosive vapour. The housing enables the thruster to comply with the ISO 8846 Marine "ignition protection" standard. In addition to the standard thruster, the set consists of a watertight (IP65) housing for the electric motor and relays, together with all required seals, electrical connectors and fastening components. An automatic fuse for the control loom is also supplied. This can be reset externally without opening the housing.
