For over 5 years Kuenz is building automated stacking crane systems. Continuous development and innovation over the years created significant improvements in regard to operational and maintenance aspects for today's crane systems in use. The Kuenz success story for automated stacking cranes is the Hamburg Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA). All 52 automated container stacking cranes are in operation now. The CTA terminal has set new standards in automation. Remote control stands are used to safeguard and - if required (e.g. truck loading) - to operate the automated stacking cranes.

Stacking and handling of containers.
Rail mounted cranes are featuring single and double-girder bridges with lattice and box type design, depending on application conditions, are used for handling of 20'-, 30'-, 40'- and 45' containers.

Our RMG crane technology was developed with the goal of meeting RMG owners needs to serve their customers efficiently and reliably while being able to operate their business profitably. The following features create the platform for the high performance crane with low maintenance cost.
Unique patented Konecranes Active Load Control (ACL) system. ACL provides the most effective sway prevention system in the market and additionally horizontal fine positioning of the spreader (the spreader can be moved up to 300 mm in trolley/gantry travel direction without moving the trolley/gantry). Because of the ACL our RMG crane is extremely easy to operate even for the new and unexperienced crane drivers. They will achieve rapidly the required production figures.
Spreader trim with hoist machinery units eliminating separate special trim mechanisms.
No hydraulics on the crane, only on the spreader. This means better reliability, less maintenance and lower environmental risks.
Low energy consumption and noise level thanks to advanced drives and power regeneration

The "Rubber-tyred Gantry" is an economical solution when straddling multiple lanes of rail/road and/or container storage, or when maximum storage density in the container stack is desired. Modular components are selected to meet the cycle time free-working-area requirements.

In addition to the traditional RTG Crane specifications, Konecranes RTG Crane includes as standard several extra features which significantly increase the performance and reliability as well as decrease the maintenance cost of the cranes. Such features are for example:
Unique sway prevention system that really prevents the sway of the spreader instead of only dampening the existing sway.
Horizontal fine positioning of the spreader (the spreader can be moved up to 300 mm in trolley/gantry travel direction without moving the trolley/gantry).

Very important feature of Konecranes RTG Crane is that the Crane does not have any hydraulic systems, not even for gantry wheel turning, anti-sway or spreader micro motions. Because the RTG Cranes are operating in harsh marine conditions, this is a very big advantage resulting in high reliability as well as low maintenance and spare parts cost.

Automatic stacking cranes (ASC) are rail mounted cranes used for yard stacking and in-stack transportation of containers in the storage area. ASCs deposit and pick up containers from dedicated transfer areas at both ends of the stack. Stacks are located usually perpendicular to the quayside in order to minimise the travelling distances of feeding equipment.

As for such RTG with stacking height of 7 containers and the hoisting height of 24m, one small elevator will be equipped to reduce operators%u2019 fatigue and ensure safety. Such small elevator can only hold two persons, and is provided with reliable safety device.

Kalmar's modern RTG design offers good availability.The machine requires minimal on-going maintenance.Its power package is at ground level and the EE-house is positioned close by on top of the sill beam.For maximum reliability, all the crane's AC drives are situated in the insulated EE-house.
Kalmar's RTG is the technological frontrunner in the market. Fully equipped with Smartrail® - the auto steering system - and a container verification system, the machine has been developed in response to changing market requirements.

The RTGs have a unique hoist rope reeving arrangement which results in extremely effective no-sway features in trolley travel, gantry travel and load skew directions. Liebherr RTGs regularly achieve load throughput figures which are 35%/40% higher than those of RTGs with a conventional 2-fall vertical rope reeving arrangement.

The majority of RTGs in the world at present have lifting capacity of 40T as only one 20ft or 40ft container is hoisted. However, the quayside container crane can hoist two 20ft containers at one time, the operation of container crane and RTG can not match each other, and the handling efficiency is seriously affected.
In 2002, ZPMC developed the double 20ft RTG which can hoist two 20ft containers with lifting capacity of 60T. After trial operation for 2 years, the performance is good, and the yard handling efficiency is increased.
