The Online Boating and Maritime Exhibition
A spray skirt is a fabric element closing the gap between the paddler and the canoe.
Usually made of neoprene, these skirts are waterproof and offer thermal insulation. The part covering the paddler's torso is generally of Gore-Tex® or a similar breathable fabric. Some have suspenders or even sleeves for additional protection. Certain skirts have pockets for personal effects.
While they can be custom made, the standardized dimensions of most canoe and kayak cockpits makes it relatively easy to find the right skirt. Many can be used both types of craft.
