The Online Boating and Maritime Exhibition
Water ski runabouts are small powerboats with little freeboard, a foredeck and a helm console protected by a windshield. They are well-suited water skiing, wakeboarding, bananas and other tow sports.
These boats are multipurpose craft suited to fishing at sea or on inland waters, short outings and just relaxing afloat. Models with a small cabin can be used for coastal cruising.
The open hulls are generally laminated polyester fiberglass. They feature a helm station with seat and windshield rather than a wheelhouse. Most have an aft bench and sometimes another forward.
Removable seats offer the possibility of an unencumbered cockpit to facilitate skier preparation, entry and recovery. Propulsion is generally hydro-jet to avoid the dangers associated with a propeller. Shallow draft provides access to shallow waters.
The presence of a cabin increases the range of possible activities. Modular deck arrangements also increase flexibility, facilitating switching from fishing to water sports to simple pleasure outings. Another factor is the capacity of storage lockers on board.
