Air, hydraulic, or spring set actuated and water cooled design, featuring copper wear plates optimized for heavy-duty continuous slip tension applications.
AquaMaKKs™ consist of a series of alternating friction discs and water jackets. Torque is transmitted by applying axial force from the pneumatic, hydraulic, or spring set actuator. Copper wear plates are used for excellent heat dissipation.
AquaMaKKs provides accurate torque control for constant tensioning and are perfectly suited for applications in oil and gas, metal processing and forming, forestry, and marine deck machinery.

Operating Features
The Wichita Kopper Kool airtube disc Clutches and Brakes are liquid cooled
and consist of a series of alternating discs connecting an inner drive member
to an outer drive member. Engagement is achieved by pneumatic expansion of
the airtube. This air-operated clutch contains copper discs for excellent heat
dissipation and provides an accurately controlled continuous slip action.
Braking torque is in direct proportion to the air pressure applied. The high level of heat dissipation makes Kopper Kool Brakes ideal for dynamometer applications and high speed web tension control duties when used with a suitable closed loop control system such as the Wichita Altra range of controllers.

The DC and DCV constricting drum clutches and brakes are found all throughout industry in general power transmission duties.
Constructed using an integral rim and tube actuator, the DC has low inertia and high misalignment capacity, offering a simple solution to less arduous clutch and brake requirements.
A full range of options is available: Dual flanges for back to back mounting giving double torque capacity. Multiple air inlets for increased response speed. Split construction to avoid removal of the shafts on in-line drives. And wether you require just the friction shoe or mounting pins, or a complete actuator and rim assembly, all are backed by the Wichita name for service and reliability

The Model HC (Dry Lining) clutches are designed to be used in either an end of shaft or through shaft mounting configuration. The use of 24 bar hydraulic actuation and multiple dry organic lined friction plates provides a clutch range with very high torque capability relative to overall diameter. The end result is a clutch that is compact dimensionally, whilst providing high torque solutions in the smallest envelope space.
The clutch range is designed for use in harsh external environments benefitting from a completely enclosed design and incorporating a dust / water ingress seal between the rotating components this makes it ideal for applications open to the elements.

Global Marine Engineering Hydraulic Power Take Off
The GME series of hydraulic PTO's features an extremely powerful, robust package capable of handling a very wide range of engine driven and general industrial applications.
The PTO's incorporate a Hydraulically actuated clutch of a multi-plate type, with sintered outer plates and steel 'SINUS' inner plates. Pressure is applied to the plates via a piston which incorporates piston rings instead of seals, to accommodate high heat loading. Plate wear is automatically compensated for increased movement of the piston.
The sintered facing allows for high thermal capacity, surface speed, and wear together with a coefficient of friction that increases uniformly to give a smooth start. Cooling oil is also passed between the plates to increase the thermal capacity of the clutch and reduce heat generated during idling conditions. Since the clutch plates are continuously running in oil, plate contamination is avoided.

The core function of a reduction gearbox is to reduce the main engine speed to the optimum propeller speed. Wärtsilä gears have been designed to meet the highest standards of operational efficiency and reliability with low noise and vibration.
|
|
The design of Scana Volda gearboxes are based upon long experience, engineering skills and excellent workmanship to make them one of the most reliable gearboxes in the market. Scana Volda reduction gearboxes can be delivered in the power range of approx. 500 to 20.000 kW.
All materials used in the gearboxes are carefully selected to ensure the right conditions of the product. The gear housing is made from high quality cast iron to achieve a rigid and stiff design to safely absorb all forces during operation at maximum load. Plain white metal bearings for pinion and bull gear shafts ensure extremely good reliability. The gearwheels are of the highest quality, and designed with large safety margins.

Marine single input/single output gearboxes are used in river boats and coasting vessels, but also in ocean-going vessels.
Depending on the ships' requirements, they can have either vertically or horizontally but also diagonally offset shafts.
Frequently, a PTO (Power Take Off) is provided to generate inexpensive on-board current. Optionally, the generators can be driven secondarily or primarily, depending on necessity. Furthermore, solutions ensuring PTH (Power Take Home) operation are available. This requirement gains more and more importance, e.g. for vessels carrying dangerous media.
As standard, all gearboxes are equipped with an oil supply system on top and a monitoring system (for unattended operation).
The gearboxes cover a power rating range from 1,000 to 30,000 kW for speed reducing ratios from 1.5 up to approx. 12:1. The propeller shaft thrust bearings are fitted into the gearbox. Accordingly, the housings are of torsionally rigid design, which also ensures perfect meshing of the gear teeth under any condition, even during bad-weather journeys.

Actually, marine twin input/single output gearboxes perform different jobs:
They concentrate the power of two or more diesel engines on one propeller
Different speeds of the vessel owing to single input/single output or twin input/single output operation (twin-screw vessels with four engines offer still more flexibility, e.g. during maintenance work on the engines)
Redundant propulsion systems
Frequently, advantage is taken of this flexibility in case of passenger liners, such as ferry boats. PTOs are standard. Frequently, also so-called primary PTOs are provided, i.e. the multiple disk clutches which are fitted on principle for connecting and disconnecting an engine are arranged in such a way, that the PTO can be operated when the engine is running, while the propeller is switched off.
Furthermore, two-speed PTOs are used more and more often, thus achieving still higher propulsion flexibility.
For a cruise liner drive, a twin input/single output gearbox was flexibly mounted in order to ensure that only low structure-borne noise is emitted to the hull.
The largest sailing ship of the world,
the Royal Clipper, was equipped with
two double reduction gearboxes of
the type GVA 1120.

|
Generator gearboxes for the generation of inexpensive on-board current are built as separate gearboxes in connection with low-speed diesel engines, and are arranged in the propeller shaft line or on the main engine face. The most varied systems are available.
Flender has also built such systems as two-speed generator gearboxes for PTO/PTI operation.
On the one hand they are used for generating on-board current in PTO operation; on the other hand they can be used in PTI/PTH operation in emergency cases to ensure redundant propulsion capability, the generator becoming a motor and the diesel engine being disconnected by means of a clutch.
