Bollinger Shipyard's Propeller Shop is a modern 27,500 square feet fully-equipped manufacturing and repair facility featuring pitchometers and four hydraulic presses with up to 400 tons capacity that allows straightening and re-pitching propellers of up to 20 feet in diameter without heating the metal.
The shop's computerized pitchometer is capable of measuring pitch, blade widths, diameter and rake. It also creates a detailed image of each propeller blade, that indicates the exact point of required work. This dramatically reduces propeller survey time, provides more accurate measurements, reduces overall time in the shop and improves propeller performance and efficiency.
Bollinger Quick Repair has been in the propeller manufacturing business since the late 1940's. We have over 2000 propeller patterns in stock and the capability to make a new pattern in 10 days. All Bollinger propellers meet or exceed ABS requirements. Propellers for Sale
The shop also services other industries such as municipal drainage systems with huge impellers. Storage of customers' propellers is also available.

When using a controllable pitch propeller it is always possible to optimize the motor and propeller to current payload, wind and water resistance. The results are low fuel consumption and proper motor load, as well as good manoeuvering qualities.
Controllable pitch propellers are used for all types of boats, and usually have three or four blades. West Mekan calculates and produces these propellers in diameters of up to 1500mm, for speeds up to approximately 40 knots.
Fixed adjustable propellers with more or fewer blades can be specially designed.

CP Propeller
The CP Propellers are manufactured from 1000 mm to 5000 mm in diameter. They are delivered with 3, 4 or 5 blades. The propeller hub and blades are manufactured in Ni.Al.-bronze. They can also be delivered in Stainless steel. The hydrodynamic blade design calculations are based on detailed analysis in computers together with Finnøys long experience.
The propeller shaft is hollow bored and made of carbon steel or stainless steel. The pitch is adjusted by the push pull rod. It transfers the axial force from the servo piston in the gearbox to the pitch setting mechanism in the propeller hub. The propeller hubs, type P26 to P48, are grease lubricated and from P39 to P125 are oil lubricated.
The stern tube is delivered complete with bearings, sealing boxes and a gravity tank for stern tube oil. The stern tube can be delivered suitable for either oil or water lubrication. The sealing boxes are Finnøys own design, but other types can also be supplied. The propeller shaft flange is a split type for the smaller shafts and an oil shrink type for the larger shafts.

In order to achieve the highest possible total efficiency of the vessel, the propeller must be a perfect match with the engine and the hull. A fixed pitch (FP) propeller is the choice when optimum efficiency, reliability and robustness are required. FP propellers are usually applied in ocean sailing vessels, for example container vessels, tankers, bulk carriers and dry cargo vessels.

Propeller Design
All ships have individual needs. Speed is important for some ships. Towing pull is more important for others. To satisfy these needs Finnøy use the most suitable software together with Finnøys knowledge when designing propeller blades. The propeller blade is designed for best possible performance regarding thrust, efficiency, noise and vibration. The blades are ground and balanced according to ISO 484 standards.

The propeller is of course one of a ship`s key "attachments".
As the critical intermediary between the power of the main engine and the water, it must push the ship across the oceans at the highest possible speed. The propeller of a large container ship rotates about 140.000 times a day. This performance must be maintained over prolonged periods, under difficult conditions. We have made it our business to design and produce propellers that can easily cope with these demands.
More than 50 years of experience in the design and production go into MMG propellers, combined with the latest computer-aided numerical processes and the most up-to-date equipment in the foundry and machining workshops. By constant investment in all areas, we keep abreast of the latest developments in international shipbuilding.
MMG (Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH) is thus one of the leading propeller manufacturers in the world. We produce propellers for all categories and sizes of ships. This also includes propellers for post-panamax container ships, VLCCs and special propellers for the navy.
