TechnologiesChain links are oval in shape and made of galvanized steel. Stud links are reinforced by a transverse hollow or solid metal bar. In addition to strengthening the links, the bars reduce the likelihood of the links fouling on one another if the chain twists around itself. Simple links have no stud.
How to chooseChoice of studded or simple links will depend on anchor weight and vessel characteristics, including displacement. Chain must fit the ship's windlass and should be approved by a certification agency, such as Lloyd's, RINA or MCA.
