Actana Representative
In May of 2000, Red Fox Environmental Services became the exclusive dealer in the United States for the Actana Superflush Toilets. Actana manufactures low volume flush toilets designed from technology based on (30) years of proven performance. This is why it was such a great fit for the two companies.
Operation of the Red Fox Low Volume Flush Toilets
The pump and all piping and valves are located within the base of the toilet. Under operation, the toilet utilizes its own pump to remove the waste and send it towards the sewage unit or holding tank. The toilet%u2019s operation is very quiet and does not require any additional macerator system because the solids are broken down with the toilet%u2019s own sheer pump. The toilet requires ½ gallon per flush and is able to pump the fluid 15%u2019 vertically and 150%u2019 horizontally. The toilet utilizes small bore discharge piping (1 ¼%u201D) reducing the typical piping space requirements as well as installation cost. Because the toilet has the ability to pump the fluid vertically, this allows the toilet to be installed below the sewage unit or holding tank inlet.
Available Models
The toilets are available in (3) different models to suit any marine application from crew boats, workboats, sport fisherman to mega yachts.

The operational efficiency of a machine or plant is determined by, above all, the bearing quality at all rotating components. This applies in particular to the line-shafting of ship propulsion plants. The Simplex bearings were developed especially for this purpose as short, plain bearings. More than 21,000 have left our works to date.
Simplex bearings are characterized by a short shell length. Moreover, they can be precisely aligned to avoid edge loading. The running properties of the bearing metal have been optimized with a technically highly advanced bonding of bearing metal and shell. The vital lubrication of the bearing is safeguarded in the Simplex bearing at all times, even at low shaft speeds. Temperature sensing and monitoring systems are also supplied. Cooling systems are available for unfavourable operating conditions.

VULKAN Composite shafts are especially suited for drive systems requiring low mass and/or where there is a great distance between shaft bearings. VULKAN composite shafts are used successfully world wide for marine propulsion and power generation, where reducing weight and eliminating intermediate shaft bearings were of high priority. They are currently in service on board fast ferries, patrol boats, work boats, yachts and stationary machinery. VULKAN Composite shafts are made from a carbon fiber reinforced synthetic material using the latest manufacturing techniques. The carbon fibers are wound in individual layers which are arranged in a criss-cross fashion with a specific winding angle relative to each other. This allows for a shaft that can transmit torque in either direction and through careful design the winding angle can be varied according to the desired shaft characteristics i.e. torsional and bending stiffnesses. The VULKAN Composite shaft utilizes bonded metal flange connections at both ends for connecting to the flanges in the drive train.

The tube is an important part of a boat's propeller system. It stops water from entering the hull, and ensures the least possible friction to the propeller shaft when it is rotating. The most common type of tube in Norway is the flexible type with a brass or bronze stem flange, a water lubricated rubber bearing, a brass shaft tube, an armoured rubber hose and a grease lubricated stuffing box with ring joints. This tube works very well, while at the same time being easy to use and maintain, plus allowing the motor to be placed on rubber dampers.
The tube can be custom modified to suit the customer's needs, with regards to choice of materials, available space and the number of parts used.
Modifications are used when a tube is installed in an aluminum hull. The shaft tube and stem flange is then made from aluminium, and a rubber bearing with synthetic shell or thordon bearing is used. The stem flange and rubber bearing can sometimes be left out when installing the propeller system on boat that are equipped with a bracket, since it is enough with the bracket and the bearing there. In those instances where space for the stem flange and bracket is limited, a short stem fitting with thordon bearing is installed. The tubes are also delivered with different sealings and lubricators.
West Mekan makes simple, high-quality tube arrangements that are field-tested and safe to use. Our 30 years of experience in designing, producing and supplying enables us to guide you to a safe decision.

The highly-flexible RATO-S coupling is a torsionally flexible rubber coupling that compensates radial, axial and angular shaft displacements of the connected machinery. The torque is transmitted by elements loaded in shear. The different torsional stiffnesses and damping factors available provide the possibility to satisfactorily tune the torsional vibration behaviour of the drive system. The essential parts of the coupling are: the torsionally flexible part, the membrane part and the connecting parts. The torsionally flexible part consists of elements, which can be arranged in one row or more rows respectively, dependent on the coupling size and the stiffness level. The flexible elements are divided into several segments. Due to the element segments and in the case of multi-row couplings, a displaced arrangement of the segments gives a good ventilation and cooling of the elements. With certain sizes the segments have additional ventilation holes. The segmental construction also assures easy handling at installation.

The VULASTIK-L coupling is a torsionally flexible rubber coupling, that compensates axial, angular and, to a certain degree, radial displacement of the connected machines. Four rubber qualities and silicone are available in order to tune the coupling to the various system requirements. VULASTIK-L couplings are available with one elastic element in standard design or with two elements acting in parallel in Dual design. The main parts of the VULASTIK-L coupling are hub and flanged casing, between these, the disc-shaped element is arranged. This disc element is connected by vulcanization at its inner radius, the outer radius is connected to the flanged casing by a "plug-in" toothing. This toothing provides the axial "plug-in" feature and compensation of shaft displacements. The permissible angular coupling displacement is 0.5°. The VULASTIK-L elements are made from heat-resistant rubber, the admissible ambient temperatures range from -45°C to +90°C. Alternative elements in silicone are available (ambient temperatures range from -45°C to +120°C). With respect to a long lifetime, however, consideration should be given to sufficiently large ventilation cross sections. This is very important when considering bellhousing.

The highly flexible RATO-DS coupling has been specially designed for use in installations requiring a high level of torsional flexibility and medium level of misalignment capacity. Supplementing the "all-round" RATO-S the RATO-DS has been developed to offer an application - orientated coupling design. Specially for rigidly mounted ship´s main propulsion. The 3 available stiffnesses enable a good tuning of the system with respect to both the transient and steady-state torsional vibration response. In the tradition of VULKAN couplings, a backlash free torque transmission is achieved. When required a torque limiting device can be fitted. The normal misalignments caused by foundation deflections, heat etc. can be adequately compensated for by the radial, axial and angular flexibility of the RATO-DS. Dynamic safety was the prime consideration in the design of the RATO-DS coupling. This is reflected in the element in the element shape - mechanical and thermal capacity and by using a friction loaded bolting arrangement. The large ventilation holes located in the couplings metal parts ensure that any heat generated in the coupling is effectively removed. The advantages of the compact dimensions together with the possibility of radial removal of the element leads to a weight efficient coupling assembly in the drive system.

Complementary to the "all-round" RATO-S coupling the highly flexible RATO-R coupling has been specially designed for use in installations requiring a high level of torsional flexibility and misalignment capacity. Inherent features of the design include the high dynamic load capacity and good rotational dynamic properties due to the low rotating inertias. The area of application is primarily in high-speed main/PTO systems driven by a Diesel engine or electric motor. In the low to middle torque range where the handling and installation of a complete element is practibable the RATO-R coupling is an additional alternative. A good tuning of the systems´s torsional vibration characteristics is possible due to the variety of torsional stiffnesses and element configurations available. The radial, axial and angular flexibility of the RATO-R coupling, with the shortest possible installation length, enables good compensation of shaft misalignments due to the flexible mounting of the prime mover, foundation movements etc. to be achieved. The use of relatively soft annular membranes permits, in the event of an axial vibration excitation, an efficient isolation of the system-effectively protecting shaft bearings. By avoiding noise paths, direct metal to metal contact, the RATO-R has excellent noise-attenuation properties.

The PROPFLEX S coupling has been designed and developed to be installed on board of pleasure crafts, where comfort of the passengers requires a high vibrations isolation degree. It has to be positioned between the gearbox and propeller shaft in order to reduce the vibrations and noise transmission coming from the shaft line itself. It can compensate axial, radial and lateral misalignments and thanks to its modular design can be supplied in different lengths and complete of spools and hubs to match with the most known gearboxes and propulsion systems. It is particulary suitable for all applications where a thrustblock is not foreseen on the shaft line. The PROPFLEX S coupling can transmit directly the propeller thrust to the thrustblock into the gearbox. As there is no direct contact between metal parts, the PROPFLEX S coupling is a noise isolating coupling. Thanks to its own design, the Propflex S coupling can be dismounted radially, without moving the connected machineries. Also available in steel and aluminium execution.

The PROPFLEX N coupling has been designed and developed to be installed on board of pleasure crafts, where comfort of the passengers requires a high vibrations isolation degree. It is particulary suitable for all application where the propeller thrust is already absorbed by the propulsion system. As there is no direct contact between metal parts, the PROPFLEX N coupling is a noise isolating coupling. Thanks to its own design, the PROPFLEX N coupling can be dismounted radially, without moving the connected machineries. Also available in steel and aluminium execution.
