Available in either fiberglass with carbon reinforcements or full carbon fiber, the Alden STAR single is just under 22' long with a waterline beam of 18.4". This shell handles well in open water and is referred to by some racing shell owners as their "Afternoon Boat" because of its ability to be rowed safely in choppier water. The flat bottom offers the stability for the recreational rower while designed with the sleek lines of a racing shell. The fiberglass/carbon version is light enough at 45 pounds fully rigged to carry or cartop, yet sturdy enough for a 275-pound rower. It's a very popular model at clubs and cottages alike.
This design went through three prototypes before finally being molded into what we know today. Alden's first boat designed specifically for flat water, the STAR is the first and only of our boats with a square stern. It has proven to be faster than the Martin Trainer (our formerly fastest boat) and is readily available either in fiberglass with carbon reinforcement (hybrid) or full carbon fiber. We stock both versions in a variety of colors including a clear gel coat on the all carbon boat that truly brings out the beauty of the black carbon material. While the carbon fiber version is more expensive, it is noticeably lighter in weight.

From Beginner to World Champion, Sykes Sculls are unique.
Five different shapes and sizes. Like athletes (and like our rowing technique), we are not all the same. Sykes boat shapes provide for geniune Men's and Women's as well as Heavyweight and Lightweight designs - not simply a bigger or smaller mould of the same design.
Each shape has been designed and is built for a purpose. Not everyone wants or needs an elite racer built for out and out speed. While of course this is our mainstay, we also produce supremely a range of comfortable, stable and competitive beginners / training / racing boats.

The Oxford Shell™ is a swift, smooth running "recreational" shell suitable for all skill levels. The narrow hard-chine hull provides speed and good initial stability in a shape that's easy to build. Whether you're just learning how to row a sliding seat shell, or you're a seasoned expert looking for a handsome exercise boat, the Oxford Shell™ has the performance you want.
Length: 6.25 m, beam: 0.56 m, weight: 17.7 kg (bare hull.)
The Oxford Shell's™ weight is kept to a minimum with 3mm okoume in the sides and deck. 4mm panels on the bottom and fiberglass on the entire hull assure strength and durability in hard beach landings (or parking lot incidents!). The handsome 6mm okoume coamings are sufficiently tall to protect the cockpit in chop up to 12". A removable aluminum skeg is standard in the kit.
Fabricating the riggers and sliding seat for a shell can be difficult and surprisingly expensive for the home builder. We have designed the Oxford Shell™ to accept the excellent self-contained sliding units manufactured by Alden and Piantedosi. The Alden Oarmaster™, Oarmaster II™, and Piantedosi™ Row Wing are simple to install in the Oxford Shell™ and can be removed in seconds for cartopping.

The first thing you'll notice about an Alden 16 is that it looks different from traditional racing shells and for good reason. It's a recreational boat! Wider and shorter than what you see raced in regattas, the 16 is a great place to start in the sport. You'll have a much better chance of staying in the boat and focussing on your technique.
Designed to achieve the optimal combination of speed, stability and durability, this boat has a strong single hull that'll take quite a lot of abuse and certainly more than shells with thin inner and outer layers. Additionally, the hull of a 16 is deep and allows you to have a lower, more stable center of gravity in the boat, rather than sitting up on top where it's easier to tip. It's a great boat in which to learn to row, for clubs and camps - and excels in open water.

Our traditional Touring boats are made out of a glass fiber laminate, which is reinforced by Kevlar. The interior is made in sandwich decks and bulkheads, which increases the boat buoyancy. Carbon reinforced wooden ribs increase the boat stiffness.
|
|
The hull is made in sandwich construction with Carbon Nomex Honeycombs. The carbon design comes from the hollow gelcoat lay.
Our sandwich laminate is pressed together by using vacuum technologies, which is increasing the stiffness. Honeycomb decks and a carbon rib reinforces the boat hull additionally.

The Champion X Single comes in three hull sizes 55-69 kg capacity; 70-84 kg capacity and 85 kg and up. The deck is a one piece carbon, Kevlar honeycomb composite with BBG red color for the deck and cockpit. The hull is clear coated in the mold just like the Olympia X. The small hulls are just under FISA limit, the mediumn hulls are at FISA weight and the large hulls are just slightly over FISA weight (~ 1 lb.) The boats have about same stiffness as the BBG Olympia single (i.e., which is stiffer than an Empacher).
|
|
|
New Olympia "X" singles are in stock and a available for Sale. The boats are constructed of multiple layers of carbon over two layers of UV resistant gelcoat with a nomex honeycomb core in the middle. The Olympia "X" hulls have been tested for stiffness and have an average defection less less than that of the traditional Olympia construction. This added stiffness makes for superior power transmission. Also the "X" construction can result in a shell that is 1-2 lbs. lighter than the Olympia in weight with the absolute weight dependent on the overall length of the hull. The Olympia "X" construction is black with the clearcoat showing the carbon in the outside layer with red trim instead of red with black trim as shown on the traditional BBG shells

Outer and inner skin kevlar/carbonfiber reinforced sandwich material with nomex honeycombs. Frames reinforced with carbonfiber. Highest quality epoxy resin, same as used in aerospace industry. Vacuum bag technique is used to guarantee total bonding between outer layers and sandwich core. The combination of aramidfiber (kevlar) and epoxy resin results in a tear and impact resistance of the outer skin, that cannot be matched with other materials for the same weight.
