A platform supply vessel (PSV) is designed for delivering material and supplies to offshore oil platforms, wind farms and similar installations.

These vessels are built for companies engaged in offshore operations.

Technologies

PSVs have voluminous holds and extensive deck space for carrying large quantities of material and supplies. They are generally built of steel, with sufficient stability for the transport of heavy cargoes. Engines, sometimes diesel-electric hybrids, are designed for economical, environmentally sound operation rather than high speed. They are equipped with a variety of thrusters for precise maneuvering around platforms. Some have galley, mess and cabins for several dozen persons, both platform relief personnel and vessel crew.

How to choose

Choice will depend on project requirements and specifications, including the size of the offshore installations, their distance from the coast and the number of persons working there.
