The Online Boating and Maritime Exhibition
A performance touring kayak is propelled by one or two people using double-bladed paddles. It is characterized by its stability, comfort, performance and stowage space.
These boats are suitable for camping trips along seashores, lake or river banks. They offer stability and stowage for all necessary gear. Performance qualities include speed and responsiveness.
Such kayaks are usually made of polyester fiberglass sandwich material, lighter and offering better performance than polypropylene. Top-of-the-line models, very light ind sturdy, are of carbon or a carbon/Kevlar® mix. Both one- and two-person models have stowage for tents, camp stoves, sleeping bags and supplies. Some have upturned bows to better handle waves during sea trips. Certain models are equipped with a small foot rudder.
Choice will depend on the size and weight of the kayaker, as well as the nature of the anticipated trips.
