An outboard motor cover is a plastic or cloth cover used to partially or totally protect the motor.
Covers extend the working life of outboard motors. They also can hide an unsightly dinghy motor stowed on the deck of a yacht or sailboat where aesthetics take precedence.
The cover fits over the entire motor or just the upper part. It can be made of PVC, vinyl, Dralon®, or another fabric that has been treated against UV rays and waterproofed. The seams should be heat-sealed to make them watertight. Some covers feature handles to facilitate carrying the motor.
Choice will depend on the motor's make, model and power. Uncommon models may require a custom-made cover.
