All too often new additions to the global luxury motoryacht fleet are described as revolutionary breakthroughs, claims that are justified in terms of size, technology or new heights of splendor. A truly radical shift in thinking is much rarer, however... And the phenomenal new 72.80 meter Feadship Predator might just fit the billing.
During the launch ceremony at the Koninklijke De Vries yard in Aalsmeer (NL) on 5 January 2008, all eyes were on Predator's sensational reverse bow. This bow forms part of the aggressive new styling brief at the core of the client's wish-list.
'The owner arrived at the yard in late 2004 with a request that we partner on something different than anything else afloat," comments Henk de Vries. "Together with De Voogt Naval Architects and Bannenberg Designs (interior), we have created a super-sleek and highly sophisticated yacht that is genuinely innovative."

Within DAMEN, the new construction, refit and repair of mega yachts is prominently carried out by Amels, established in 1918 as a family-owned shipyard specialising mainly in the construction of commercial vessels. Amels joined DAMEN in 1991. Its dockyard facilities are located in Vlissingen.
The development of a mega yacht demands close-knit cooperation with world-renowned yacht and interior designers. Within this concerted activity, in-house naval architecture and engineering ensure an efficient and flexible production process, resulting in a technically reliable, truly custom-built pedigree yacht with immaculate finishing.
A semi-custom series ranging between 50 and 70 metres, introduced in 2005, follows the same basic philosophy that has worked so successfully for other members of the Damen Shipyards Group. The essence of this philosophy is to build each vessel on a proven platform that can be customised by the client, substantially reducing costs and shortening delivery time. The first 52-metre semi-custom yacht is to be delivered in early 2007.

The spectacular design is without doubt one of the most remarkable assets of Oceanco's Alfa Nero. A huge proportion of the yacht's length is devoted to a long, lowstern that dominates her sleek appearance. Effortless access to the sea, a beach club, swimming pool and a sunbathing deck provide the Owner and guests with an enormous amount of space for leisure and sports activities.
The 7 x 3.5m (23 x 11.5ft) swimmimg pool is one of the largest yet built on a superyacht and is a superb feat of innovation by Oceanco's engineers. Hydraulic rams elevate the pool floor to deck level, transforming this section of the aft deck into a dance floor, a vast entertaining area or even a helipad.
