A mooring buoy is an attachment point for lines and cables used to moor a vessel. It is anchored to the seabed by lines or chains.
This device is a floating anchoring point for all types of vessels, floating platforms or aquaculture structures.
Such buoys vary greatly in their design, size, physical characteristics and constituent materials. Buoys for small craft are usually of plastic, with a hook, an eye or another fitting allowing attachment of mooring lines. Large buoys are used to moor ships. Some are illuminated.
Vessel size and displacement will determine choice of mooring buoy.
