A New Generation In Cargo Tank Gauging
Radar Tank Gauging
MarRAD® is a unique and fully integrated radar tank gauging system for the monitoring of temperature, pressure, high level and overfill, and is fully compatible with loading systems.
The intrinsically safe MarRAD® offers a user friendly PC controlled display, with graphical displays showing a clear indication of all tank parameters.
Cargo Pressure & Temperature Gauging
At the heart of the system is the Deck Mount Module (DMM) which contains the highly accurate, non contact radar head, which is designed to monitor the full range of liquid products carried by modern tankers. Additional to this, the DMM has the facility to integrate tank pressure and multi-point temperature sensors for a total cargo-monitoring package.
Unique 'smart barriers' transmit the data over a single (or dual redundant) communication link to the system display and processing unit located in the control room. Twin screen options allow monitoring of both cargo and ballast tanks simultaneously, offering the ultimate convenience.

Tank Level Alarm
The API TLA™ signalling system (tank level alarm) is designed specifically for operations with any type of liquid and liquefied gas. Control levels are set at the upper level (95%) and at emergency level (98%) of the tanks. If these control levels are reached during loading, the API TLA™ sets off an alarm together with an indication of the level reached.

The intrinsically safe LOG3840 is a local indicator designed for deck
installation. The LOG3840 calculates and displays locally on the LCD
screen the liquid level in the cargo tank expressed in innage or ullage, the
liquid spot or average temperature in °C or °F and the inert gas pressure in
mbar measured by transmitters.
It is powered by the TA3840S safety unit and communicates on the
same bus than the radar. It operates in spy mode, reading and displaying
data picked up on the communication line between the radar and the
TA3840S safety unit.

The CT801LB/S-B transmitter is designed to be mounted on the top of
the tank. The CT801LB/S-B allows a remote level measurement using a
4-20 mA analog output, while keeping the principle of bubbling.
The lack of (air or neutral gas) supply pressure is not a problem for the
CT801LB/S-B. An automatic valve is activated as soon as the supply
pressure falls below 1 bar. When this valve is closed, the liquid cannot
return back to the bubbling line up to the transmitter.
For pressurized tanks, the level is deduced from the differential
pressure measurement between the bubbling probe and the pressure
of the inert gas above the liquid. The air or neutral gas supply is
protected by means of a filter.

Tank Gauging Device
The API TGD (Tank Gauging Device) is a multi-functional device, which measures a cargo tank’s level and pressure as well as temperature and density of the cargo. It is based on patented principle of Guided Low Frequency GLF™ wave propagation, which allows equal precise accuracy of measurement along tank height in any shape of tank. The tank gauging device has been developed to work with the highest level of accuracy in any type of liquid, oil products, liquefied gases, acids, solvents and other chemicals preventing any waste without influence of foam from surface.
The data from the API TGD is transferred to the control room through just two cables, thus reducing the cost of lengthy cabling throughout the tanker. The tank gauging device has four integrated measuring channels:
- Low frequency non contact level gauge with accuracy of 2 mm
- Multiple thermo sensors for temperature profile measurement in the tank
- Density sensors
- Inert Gas Pressure sensor

Liquid Level Switch
The API UTS™ Liquid Level Switch works on the principle of distributed acoustic wave in a metal rod.
The API UTS™ is installed outside the tank with only the metal rod inside the tank. Acoustic waves in the metal rod created by piezo-electric ensure transmission of signals. When the liquid in the tank reaches the probe on the rod, the emission of sound waves is muffled. This change is picked up by the piezo-electric and signals are transmitted to the corresponding alarms.
Patented in EU, USA and Japan.
The API UTS™ Liquid Level Switch is a series of sensors that can make up part of various control systems and is designed in more than 300 modifications.

The temperature and pressure transmitter T901-Px1A is especially
designed to meet liquid cargo monitoring requirements. It is designed
to require only a single installation to obtain two types of
measurements (temperature and pressure).
Its design enables easy maintenance especially thanks to the modularity
of each item. The absolute-type pressure cell avoids all damage due to
the saline environment. The T901-Px1A can be connected by a flexible
hose making it insensitive to heavy seas.
The temperature probes (from one to three) give the temperature of the
liquid with high accuracy enabling the computer to directly correct the
density parameters.

The system consists of Gauge Heads, ready assembled with air-throttle valve, non return valve, and electronic pressure transmitter IP 68. The gauge head to be mounted to a yard supplied 1 measuring pipe, which is guided into the corresponding tank to a level 3 cm above tank bottom. The Gauge Head is provided with a 12 mm cutting ring connection for connection to a common working-air circuit with supply-air pressure reduced to 3 to 3,5 bar. By the throttle valve the air bubble flow is reduced to max. abt. 30 ltr./h to the tank or draft measuring point. The non-return valve assembled with the Gauge Head secures the air-circuit and the pressure transmitter against tank fluid flowing back into the pneumatic circuit. The signal pick-off is rendered by an electronic pressure transducer type G1-S with ceramic sensor cell with high purity aluminium oxid membrane, providing analog signals 4 - 20 mA corresponding to the air-overpressure in the measuring pipe. Signal generation: capacitive sensor cell with full range individual temperature compensation stored on cell, sensor cell and amplifier in one common housing, zerosetting without influence on span-setting. Tuning: to straight value in excess of max. obtained pressure, allowing easy installation and adaptation to individual tank at indicating instrument.
