A luxury catamaran is a twin-hulled motor yacht at least 15 meters long with high-end fittings and appointments.

Applications

These craft are used for offshore cruising and luxury charters.

Technologies

Catamarans are built using the entire range of materials available in marine construction, from wood to steel or aluminum, including carbon fiber, fiberglass and sandwich technology. SWATH (small waterplane area twin-hull) design reduces hull area at the water's surface by placing the bulk of its displacement underwater, reducing vessel instability and attendant seasickness.

How to choose

In addition to aesthetics, choice will depend on the desired mix of the numerous features available on these craft: engine options, comfort level, number of berths, crew quarters, dinghy garage and water sports equipment, among others. Some boatyards offer custom or semi-custom construction. SWATH should be considered by those subject to seasickness.
