A loaded container handler is a port utility vehicle capable of lifting, moving and stacking very heavy full shipping containers.
These vehicles, which operate the same way as standard forklift trucks, can be used in container transit ports, by transport companies and for freight handling at railway stations and airports.
Such handlers have a very low center of gravity thanks to heavy counterweights place close to the ground. This enables them to lift and stack full containers eight or more levels high. They have a small, roofed operator's cabin and a telescopic or boom-mounted lifting arm.
Most use a mechanical locking system with automatic release to grasp containers from above. They generally have all-wheel steering enabling them to turn in their own length.
Choice will depend on the type and maximum weight of containers to be handled, as well as their storage configuration.
