There%u2019s no question that the use of articulated pipe systems for marine loading and marine unloading bulk liquid cargo from barges and small ships is the better way to complete the task.
%u2022 Faster and more economical: one person can do the work of two or more in a fraction of the time and, in turn, for a fraction of the cost
%u2022 Safer: the potential for injury and all its costs is reduced to its lowest when partial or full automation replaces brute strength
%u2022 More environmentally responsible: no more risk of burst hoses or leaks and spills caused when hoses %u201Cget away%u201D from their handlers
No wonder so many companies have adopted marine loading arms, often more than 20 years ago%u2014and why many more are realizing these advantages every day. It%u2019s also no wonder there is increasing pressure by port authorities and other government agencies to adopt the faster, safer, cleaner alternative to wrestling with flexible hoses%u2014Carbis marine loading arms addresses these issues!
Recently, however, the only sources for marine loading arms have been offshore manufacturers. And, in light of recent events, their ability to overcome unfavorable exchange rates, huge distances, and other challenges, have left the market hungry for a domestic source.
Today, Carbis is that U.S. source%u2014for marine loading arms that feature superior design and quality construction, as well as the rapid and dependable service and support that domestic shippers have been missing.

Carbis marine loading arms for barge and small ship applications are typically custom designed and we offer the in-house capabilities to get you the right solution quickly. Our design staff includes more than 30 mechanical, structural, and industrial engineers and support staff to guide you through concept, design and material specification to achieve the right solution for your specific needs.
Our marine loading arms are based on a proven articulated piping system with three split flange swivel joints that allow a full range of motion for connections and compensation for vessel movement. Marine Arms are available in 4" to 12" piping sizes, these units can be customized in many ways to meet your specific needs for end connections, reach, and range of motion. Designs can include manual counterweights or full hydraulic operation. See the table on the right for nominal flow rates for various piping sizes.

MLA 260
The MLA260 series is the most efficient range of marine loading arms on the market, due to the slim design and the availability of a number of design options to ensure that specific site requirements are met in the best possible way.
The MLA260 can be used with virtually all liquids and gases that are capable of being transferred through pipes. The use of a unique double inboard arm has resulted in the smallest design footprint possible whilst ensuring that the loads encountered at the MLA260 base plate are the lowest when compared with any other type of arm.
The MLA260 model can be configured with more than one fully separated, self-supporting product lines, which are designed to absorb all possible forces associated with structural mass, fluid weight, pressure load and wind load.
Full balance of the loading arm is provided by means of a rigid pantograph link, which connects the outboard arm to the rotating counterweight. Special care has been given to the rotating pivots of the pantograph bar both in design and in material selection thus assuring smooth operation with minimum maintenance. Four different executions are available

MLA 262
The MLA262 series consists of a frame type construction including separate supporting structure with floating product and/or vapour pipe. Full balance of the loading arm is provided by means of a %u201CCable wheel link%u201D rotating counterweight-balancing system.
The MLA262 series is specifically used for cryogenic or highly corrosive or toxic chemical service.

Woodfield Systems Limited%u2019s managing director, Richard Williams, says this co-operation heralds a new era of cost effective solutions for the loading arm market place: %u201CWe are very happy with our world-wide partners and the quality of their work. We have worked very hard and invested heavily in communication and experience transfer with our nominated construction houses, and as a result our design engineers have found working with the constructors to be easy and efficient.%u201D
Temperatures from -1640C to +2000C
The Woodfield range of Marine Loading Arms extend from 4%u201D dia. up to 24%u201D dia., for handling crude oil, refined products, slurries, chemicals, LPG, LNG and other cryogenic products. The equipment can cover operating temperatures from -1640C to 2000C.
Arms can be supplied as manual, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic with either hardwired or wireless remote control. Manually operated arms can be supplied with attachment brackets for the later addition of hydraulic operations. Operational limiting controls and other warning devices are available as optional extras. Woodfield Arms, although normally fixed in one jetty position, can be mounted on movable trailers or rail tracks to provide dockside flexibility.
Several types of quick connect/disconnect couplings are available for the full range of Loading Arms. An emergency disconnect coupling is also available as an operator initiated device or as part of a sequence controlled %u201Cshut down%u201D disconnect-system.
