April 2006 saw Remontowa S.A. signing the contract with Finnish Owners OY Gaiamare AB and Meriaura OY for the construction and delivery of two specialized cargo vessels, with delivery scheduled for 2007.
Each of the vessels is a multi-purpose cargo carrier intended for transport of ships’ steel blocks and sections, heavy equipment, containers or rocks, stones, logs and timber as deck cargo.
The vessel is a mono-hulled open deck carrier with forecastle and accommodation block with wheelhouse located fore.

MSV Botnica represents the same concept in a slightly smaller scale than its elder sisters. It also introduces a new feature - a moon pool, which allows many offshore operations, such as operating a ROV, to be carried out in heavier weather conditions than with conventional methods.

The vessel is especially designed and constructed to meet the requirements for standby support work, ice breaking, and barge towage in the shallow waters in the North Caspian Sea.
