A hybrid boat is one combining electric and internal combustion motors for propulsion.
Hybrid boats are found in many vessel categories, from large vessels to pleasure craft.
A hybrid boat has an internal combustion engine as its primary power plant, as well as an electric motor and batteries. While the electric motor is powering the boat, the internal combustion engine consumes little or no fuel. When more power is needed, the internal combustion engine supplies the additional motive force.
Several criteria must be considered when choosing this arrangement: vessel type, battery drain rate, the size and weight of the electrical elements, power, etc.
